An Unconventional Field Mapping Application: A Complete Opensource Workflow Solution Applied to Lithological Mapping of the Coatings of Cultural Heritage

The conservation of a primary importance historical building requires organization, management, continuous updating, comparison, and visualization large amount data different nature origin. In relation to these aspects the use GIS brings various advantages including single univocal management entire existing in relational, dynamic, updatable queryable way. integration mobile solution permits updating dataset checking on site all information. workflow presented uses opensource solutions, desktop mobile, which allows creation an unconventional lithological Field Mapping activity: starting from photo interpretation situ survey, coating materials (stone, etc.) some monuments cultural interest have been mapped (i.e., Duomo di Firenze, Prato). product can be considered as cartography, vertically oriented, processed by field surveys, geognostic surveys interpretation.
